Dear District 75 Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I am thrilled to extend a heartfelt welcome to you all as we begin another exciting school year. I am so grateful for the opportunity to commence this school year together by embracing learning, growth, and shared experiences. This year, Chancellor Banks has asked that we enhance students’ literacy skills. We will move boldly to meet this goal. We are all gearing up to launch NYC READS! As a district, we have laid the groundwork for the successful implementation of this initiative. We cannot do this without your help. Our school teams will be reaching out to you for support at school and at home.

Our focus this year is to continue to ensure that every student engages in rigorous academic learning in safe and caring environments. Our schools will start the year with robust plans to help your children improve their reading and overall literacy skills. We will intensify our work to support our middle and high school students with emotional disabilities, English Language Learners, and Multilingual Learners. We will continue to support our students’ social-emotional and mental health to promote their well-being and participation in their learning. We will immerse our students in the Arts and STEM throughout our K-12 classrooms. We will also place a huge emphasis on transition planning starting at the middle school level. We will work collaboratively to expand work-based learning experiences and post-secondary opportunities for high school students as they move towards independence on their path towards adulthood.

We will be hosting Back to School Events for Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island families on September 23rd at 721K located at 64 Avenue X Brooklyn NY 11223. The Bronx and Manhattan Event will be held in collaboration with the Bronx Borough President’s Office on September 30th at 188X located at 730 Concourse Village West Bronx NY 10451. Both events will be from 11am - 2:30pm. We look forward to seeing our families at these events to learn about the work we will do together, gain resources from over thirty community agencies, receive school supplies, connect with other families, and enjoy fun activities with each other.

I would also encourage you to support and participate in the parent leadership groups that include the PA/PTA and SLTs at your school and the D75 Citywide Council. In the coming weeks you will be invited to attend the Open School Night and Parent Teacher Conferences. Please attend these sessions to meet your child’s teacher and to learn about the work we will do together this year. For additional support you may reach out to your school principal or contact my office at 212-802-1502.

In partnership,

Ketler Louissaint
