Special Olympics New York has unveiled Doug Rebecca from P721K, New York City Region as the winner for the 2025 Outstanding Coach of the Year Award at Special Olympics New York’s State Winter Games Opening Ceremonies this past Friday, February 21 in Rochester, NY.
He was one of the nine finalists nominated by staff and was selected by the Statewide Coaches Committee, which is comprised of coaches in each of the Special Olympics NY nine regions.

With more than 20 years of teaching and coaching experience in NYCPS, New York City Region, Doug has made an unparalleled impact on NYCPS Special Olympics programming and athletics. He is deeply committed to supporting his athletes. He meets each athlete where they are and challenges them to improve, always pushing them to perform their best. His work in bringing Special Olympics' Motor Activity Training Program to New York City Public schools has been unparalleled, as are his efforts to support his fellow coaches. He coaches year-round, instructing athletes in basketball, bocce, bowling, floorball, soccer and track and field. Doug embodies everything we ask for from our teachers/coaches.
The Special Olympics Unified Flag Football players were given tickets for the Jets game this past Sunday. 176X won the tournament and was invited out onto the field with the second-place team to be recognized. The MVP, David Skullark-a 176X senior, was awarded two all-expense paid flight, hotel, and game tickets for the Superbowl. Students and parents had a really great time.
