District 75

Our History

The seeds of District 75 began in New York at the turn of the century when the idea of special efforts for special children began to take shape in response to the needs of thousands of new immigrants. Activism, emerging social ideas, legal victories, and enlightened educational practices changed slowly from 1900 to the current day. This led to the existence of District 75, an entire District dedicated to children with specific physical, sensory, emotional, environmental, technical, and intellectual requirements. The following is a brief, remarkable, history of how District 75 came to be.
